I tried FOV mod online for about half an hour. I went home over the weekend and came back Monday afternoon. Now I'm banned until the 17th, and rockstar support is threatening to put me in a cheater pool... In the end, they seem not to like people modifying their game.

As long as it's a mod and rockstar finds out, there is a chance you'll get banned. Read this article for more info: http://www.game-debate.com/news/?news=16768&game=Grand

Getting banned in multiplayer is likely if you use singleplayer mods.

I'm just considering this aloud but I believe R* is targeting anyone using mods currently. I hope they're developing features that allow cosmetic modifications without limits, while keeping other mods restricted to single-player use. Perhaps they could create a custom modding system or tool.

I wouldn't bother with mods unless Rockstar mentions a ban or similar.
