I placed an order for the Z390 Phantom Gaming ITX motherboard from Newegg, but I just found out that stock BIOS 1.20 isn’t compatible with my CPU i9 9900K R0. I’m worried about this. Can I update the BIOS without finding a suitable CPU? If I install the i9 9900K, will it simply freeze in black without even starting, or can I at least access the BIOS?

You can test it out. If it doesn't function, you'll have to use a different CPU to refresh the BIOS.

Typically, Asrock will offer a BIOS chip for boards with removable EEPROM chips. Unfortunately, your motherboard doesn’t have that feature. You can visit places like Frys or Microcenter to bring the system in and get the BIOS updated using a loaner processor.

Previously, with conflicting BIOS settings, the device failed to boot at all.

The version included was 4.0, not 1.20 as anticipated.
