I'm trying to upgrade my Lenovo Thinkstation P500 workstation with a new CPU. It currently has a Xeon E5-1650v3 on its original single socket motherboard. I've had trouble finding a high core E5-16xx single socket CPU that's affordable, while the E5-26xx dual socket models are easy to source cheaply on eBay. My main concern is whether an E5-26xx CPU will work on a motherboard that only has one socket. Also, I want to confirm the system uses the original Lenovo/Intel C610 board, not a gaming build. This machine is mainly used for running AGi32 calculation software, which prioritizes core count over clock speed.
