I haven't refreshed my PC since early July because I didn’t want to while I was working on certain tasks. Then I learned about the Windows update that can brick devices by making the system ignore SSDs. I’m wondering if there’s a fix available for this problem, since I’d rather not update until it’s resolved. My PC is essential for my well-being, and I don’t want to risk losing it due to Microsoft’s mistakes.

Check your device settings or manufacturer documentation to see if it supports Phison technology. You can also look for specific hardware indicators in the system information.

Switch to Linux and experience the freedom. It’s likely Microsoft will release an update for their complex code soon—keep an eye on tomorrow, Patch Tuesday, and stay tuned for updates.

In the latest JayTwoCents video discussing testing and benchmarking Nvidia drivers, he briefly mentioned something unrelated at the 2:40 mark. I believe the provided link contains the correct timestamp. In the ThioJoe video, he reviewed the earlier JayTwoCents video and highlighted the crash along with the disappearing SSD. ThioJoe's explanation seems quite intriguing.

If it's a beta firmware issue, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect review samples to be impacted more? You're interested in testing a specific SSD under stress on Linux.

It would be useful to observe the results, especially on Linux where you can likely access all disk information.

The update interval can vary, but I paused it in July and now expect a refresh in three days on the 11th of September. VMD stands for Visual Media Development, a platform for creating and sharing video content.

The SSD bricking problem was linked to a particular Windows update (KB5039302 / KB5040527). Microsoft removed the defective patch, and the updated cumulative fix is now available. To avoid the faulty version, install updates today. For extra security, back up your data first or skip optional/preview updates and stick to the latest Patch Tuesday release.

Additional details available here: https://www.neowin.net/news/root-cause-f...een-found/ Initially, I thought these were just exaggerated stories. But digging deeper and seeing how the big media framed it made it hard to believe anything real.
