Hi everyone, I recently upgraded an OS-free workstation and installed the OS along with a GTX 1660. It features an Xeon E3-1231 v3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a relatively slow HDD. Initially, I was satisfied with the performance, but after watching other YouTubers achieve higher FPS in games, I considered a possible RAM bottleneck. However, my experience shows only minor drops—sometimes reaching 60 FPS in Fortnite with low settings, and even lower at 27. I’m not sure if the CPU is the main issue. What do you think?

Can you boost the processor speed? Increasing the memory to 16GB will also assist.

Many creators have been disabling security updates for Spectre and Meltdown to boost performance, which sparked some attention. I also noticed someone adjusting the CPU turbo settings or something similar, though it’s a more complex process. I’d recommend having two RAM sticks for better stability, but one stick could limit performance if only one channel is used. It’s unclear if unlocking with the E3 series works for this specific guide, but it might be worth checking. There are also tools mentioned in the video description that can disable updates, and using solid-state storage could speed up asset loading since there’s limited RAM available.

I don’t want to push the CPU too hard because the cooling system doesn’t seem strong enough, and I’m worried about encountering blue screens.

Boosting your setup with more RAM and an SSD will definitely improve performance. Are you aware of your CPU speeds during gameplay, possibly experiencing throttling?

There are tools that let you overlay data without constantly using Shift+Alt. Some software supports game overlays and can help with measurements smoothly.

I haven't seen the videos before, but based on what I've watched, they seem realistic and the differences in performance between those processors were reasonable.

Readers typically rely on more powerful processors and storage than your device offers, which means online displays may not match real-world performance. It's similar to comparing a high-end 9900k with eight cores to your own setup, resulting in lower output because of fewer resources available.
