I planned to purchase a TR2990wx but the 3970x model is now available—it's more affordable and performs better. I was considering an ASUS X399-E motherboard, though it uses the TRX socket while the TR3970x is for the TRX400. Are they compatible?
X399 belongs to the 1 and 2000 series, while TR is from the 3000 series.
TRX40 is the latest chipset, while sTRX4 is the new socket. This isn’t compatible with the older 2990WX, which uses the sTR4 socket and requires an X399 chipset board. Therefore, a 3970X won’t work with an X399 board. The naming system has become really confusing lately, haha.
