Absolutely understood. For just $100 you can get a powerful 6-core processor. No one needs quadcores anymore. Even when setting up a simple PC for my parents' basic office work, I’d choose the 6-core option just in case.

The 3200g and 3400g models feature fewer or less powerful cores, which is balanced by adding an APU.

If you have funds available, I’d still receive the 3600. The Ryzen 3000 lineup delivers superior performance and justifies the cost if you need it. What will you be using it for? Gaming could make the extra spend worthwhile. For those on a limited budget, the 1600 AF remains a solid option.

Trust me, you'll feel better knowing the 1600AF is available on Amazon for $85—probably around $2600. A 3600 offers a stronger 6C/12T CPU but comes at a higher price point.

It seems most people shouldn't purchase new quad-core processors. For refurbished options—without a dedicated GPU and occasionally without extra storage—you can build a functional setup using a 3470 chip for less than $100 USD.

No one should purchase any quad-core processors with hyperthreading. That issue is resolved now. However, the price still reflects solid performance. A $20 quad delivers a Xeon X5650 on LGA 1366. Between $40 and $50 you get an Xeon E5-1650 v1 on LGA 2011, both with six cores. Motherboards can be tricky to source, but affordable options exist in China for under $50. Six cores remain accessible at a reasonable cost regardless of the board. Moving up a bit brings you to the 1600AF for around $85. The 3470 and 2400 chips are the only ones truly worth the investment these days.

Having more GPUs would be useful when you disable the primary one. Intel users have this option for a long time.
