I created a machine for my brother about a week ago. After 5-6 days of smooth operation while he played League of Legends, the computer stopped working and hasn't been active since. I also ran a stress test on his PC for 10 minutes after building it. Specifications: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2, Corsair Vengeance LPX Black, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel, Palit GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Dual LHR 8GB GDDR6, 256-bit SSD Kingston KC3000 1TB PCI Express 4.0. It runs Pure Power 12M, 80+ Gold, 650W.
Symptoms: Once I powered it on, all fans spun up (GPU lights stayed off) and the screen remained blank. I've tried several fixes: moved GPU to another machine, turned off all fans and peripherals, re-seated components twice, used only one or two RAM sticks in every setup, and even swapped his CPU into my motherboard (it worked). I can't install his CPU in mine because it's an older model.
From what I know, CPUs tend to last a long time, but this one seems to have failed quickly. Any thoughts?
What BIOS version do you have? I believe some unsupported CPUs can function, though it’s uncertain if they’ll perform reliably. It might be worth checking. The 5000 series usually required F10 BIOS, while the 3000 series worked with F2. I suspect an unsupported CPU could cause issues, but updating the BIOS seems like a likely fix. If it was using an unsupported version, a critical error might have prevented booting. It’s probably just a matter of updating.
It might be a factory flaw that led to the CPU failing prematurely. Please file a warranty claim and verify functionality after replacement.
