Hi everyone. I'm planning to buy a PC from a friend for web, Minecraft, Terraria, and file server use. The motherboard is an Asus H110M-K, which doesn't have an M2 slot like the H110M-A. I'm considering getting a cheap PCIe to M2 adapter, but I need to confirm if it supports NVMe. Do you think it could work?

Without a dedicated port, it seems unlikely the device supports NVMe. I haven’t confirmed the exact motherboard, so I wouldn’t risk trying that path. SATA SSDs would perform equally well and work out of the box. NVMe doesn’t add value here.

With the existing PCIe connections, your motherboard can handle NVMe using a converter. It’s unclear if it can start up from PCIe devices.

It may appear as a storage device even without NVMe support.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I think I’ll go ahead and purchase that adapter. If it doesn’t function as a boot drive, at least I can repurpose part of it as a cache drive. I already have a spare 256GB from my laptop—replacing it with a 1TB model would make it more cost-effective for me. While I was writing this, I had an idea: even if it isn’t useful as a boot drive, it could still serve as a secondary fast drive in my main PC for running more demanding games. I expect to receive the computer from a friend in about a week or two, so I’ll keep this discussion open until I test it out. I’ll also share the results once I’ve tried it.

Ok. It works, but funny thing is that this motherboard just ignores fact that nvme exist. I mean this friend that I bought the computer from got new mobo also also from Asus. UEFI is the same, but it has some options that have "nvme" word in it, mine does not. Altough that, it works perfectly fine, I installed Windows server and booted with no problems. If someone is curious the adapter is called "Elmak Savio AK-41"
