I understand this thread will be short. I’m planning to buy a game for my child’s birthday soon and have a discount code ready for a third-party site to get a Steam key. The code has a limited time, but I’m curious—will Steam keys still work after it expires? My kid’s birthday is October 9.

It won't happen. The key remains valid as long as it's confirmed on an account.

They shouldn't be needed unless you're very unlucky and the purchased keys were taken and canceled, which is highly improbable. I own steam keys in my library from about two years ago, and they remain valid for two years even after I gave them away.

They don’t seem to have a limited time frame. Probably just a dishonest seller giving out the same game keys again.
