Mobo: Asus crosshair VIII CPU, AMD X3700 power supply, SEASONIC focus px-750 RAM, 2x 16GB Gskill Trident Z neo (F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC), Video footage shows the issue with the computer shutting down during gameplay and stopping post. Pressing the power button makes the PSU click once but nothing occurs. Lights illuminate but error codes LCD stays off, fans don’t spin, and GPU logo lights appear then disappear. Pcie power indicators stay lit in white, red means no power. Steps taken: unplugged for an hour, reset BIOS/CMOS, tested PSU with basic OEM tester, fan activated on PSU, disconnected everything except CPU, RAM, and GPU. Checked each RAM stick in slot A2 (primary dim), pulled and inspected CPU and board caps—appeared fine. Confirmed GPU receives power. Uncertain if the problem lies with CPU, board, or GPU. No compatible parts to swap for testing. Seeking advice on possible causes; unsure if error codes will show up without the GPU installed. Currently, swapping in an older GTX-460 with PCIe 2.0 x16 fails to resolve the issue, and I’m unsure if a PCIe 2.0 slot works with this board.

In Greg Salazar's "Fix or flop" videos, he often addresses systems with malfunctioning Zen2 CPUs, some showing similar issues to yours. It might be wise to switch to another CPU and test it on a different setup.

The fans would likely stop spinning once you power it on without the CPU, memory, and GPU.

I managed to get it working. After connecting the fresh power supply, everything started functioning. Right away, a blue flash appeared and smoke emerged from the motherboard. The source was clearly marked in red within the photo. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a small speck. I gently removed it with a q-tip. It doesn’t seem to be the root cause since after cleaning and thoroughly cleaning the PC, it operated normally. Once I restarted, it booted up without issues. I still need to install the heatsink and monitor. The most unusual part was testing it: I swapped in the old PSU while keeping the cables intact. It worked perfectly—magic smoke! After reassembling everything, I connected the display and keyboard/mouse, then launched the OS. I’m currently typing on the PC. Memory and storage appear normal, and the CPU fans near the spark area are running. I’ll run some stress tests to confirm stability. Feeling fortunate. This new PSU might stay handy for future fixes.
