I'm a PC enthusiast, so I might have asked a silly question. I recently purchased an ASUS PRIME A520M-A II Micro-ATX motherboard and am searching for a used CPU to build a budget PC of my own. I discovered some attractive price ranges for CPUs, but those fall between the AMD 1000 and 2000 series. I'm curious if the A520 motherboard is compatible with the 1000 or 2000 series AMD CPUs. The models I found include Ryzen 7 1700, Ryzen 5 1600X, Ryzen 7 2700, and Ryzen 7 2700X. Some people say it supports them, while others claim not. That will be a good chip choice/series for what you've got, just be sure you don't get one of a higher wattage rating. Keep it to a chip that's rated for 65W and you'll be fine and I say that because bottom tier boards like you have aren't known to have a "Good" VRM setup. That's because boards of that model tier are budget boards, not meant for any real OC'ing and they tend to not like the bigger wattage rated chips over the long haul. Personally I just bought a 4600G for my dad's PC as an upgrade, giving him my X470 Tachi Ultimate for the upgrade while getting my CBR and 7870K Godavari back he is currently using. That chip (4600G) will work in what you've got. It has intergrated graphics, 6 cores/12 threads and it's a lower wattage chip too (65W) so it would be a good one to use in that board if you were to get one of them. Best of all, ATM it's going for just over a bill at the egg so right now it's cheap too, which is a big reason why I chose it. I know those can run anything from a 1000 series all the way up to a 5000 series - They can even support the older Athlon GE series chips too because I've ran my GE220 in my X470 before without issue.
