I assembled a PC last year using an ASRock B450 Pro4 motherboard and two 8GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM sticks. It functions properly, but I planned to upgrade to 64GB of RAM for development tasks like virtual machines and compiling. I purchased two 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX modules at 3200MHz, yet the system would restart repeatedly during installation. After some basic checks, I verified that the old XMP profiles weren’t causing issues. I cleared the UEFI by shorting the CMOS jumper and even removed the CMOS battery to ensure reliability. I also confirmed the modules fit without damage when reinstalled, and everything worked afterward.
As someone experienced with PC construction, I’m open to technical guidance or questions for further troubleshooting. My main concerns are:
- Could the ASRock B450 Pro4 be incompatible with 32GB modules? The specs claim support for 128GB, but the manual mentions only 64GB total, so what’s the real limit?
- If the motherboard only supports 64GB total, would it still work with two 32GB sticks? Could higher-speed modules like 4x16GB 2667MHz be an alternative?

Which BIOS version are you running? Ryzen has faced issues with LPX memory on AM4 boards for some time; I recommend checking the QVL for compatible options and starting there. My board is from v4.20, but it struggles to exceed 2933 on a 2x8 configuration.
I don't have the BIOS version and my PC is currently taken apart, so I can't verify that. I'd prefer to reassemble it if needed. If the BIOS info is crucial, you'll need to put it back together. The QVL details are confusing because the listed memory often comes from a kit. Do you mean 'size' refers to the module itself or the overall capacity? For the Matisse series, the maximum size listed is 32GB, and your setup with 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX modules at 3000MHz worked without issues.
The processor is a Ryzen 5 3600. The memory part number is CMK64GX4M2E3200C16 and the update is v5.42. Because I can't start up with them, it's difficult to confirm the exact version. The QVL shows Corsair products beginning with CMK64GX4M... They are also 32GB at 3000MHz, but since they default to lower speeds during booting with standard UEFI, the performance difference likely won't be noticeable. I somehow got the older ones installed properly while trying to fix the issue, so I didn’t think it was a problem with the new ones either. Excuse me for the comment and thank you for your assistance—this made me try installing again because I wasn’t sure they’d work as described. For other PC builders like me, make sure you really press the modules firmly. People often say this, but it’s still tougher than it seems. Even when you hear a click, it’s hard to confirm. Push the module down straight and listen for a loud click or two. Also, the sockets with just one adjustable end were frustrating since my modules didn’t fit in straight at first.
