Hello, I just assembled my initial PC and experimented with various configurations to boost performance. I have a 3700X paired with an ASUS ROG Strix B550-F (WiFi), maintaining idle temperatures between 38 to 45°C. I'm curious whether keeping it in boost mode or using the more intense custom fan curve would be preferable. Additionally, I'd like to verify if those idle readings are suitable for the 3700X. Please note: the temperatures shown assume an OC CPU speed of 4000MHz on the boost curve, not the custom setting. These readings were taken in a relatively open setup—my case is still unfinished, sitting in a basic cardboard box with a medium fan aimed straight at it. Edit: The cooling solution is the standard AMD Prism cooler included with the 3700X.
I understand your question about choosing alternatives. Let me know what you're referring to, and I'll help you decide!
I operate at 2700x in silent mode HTPC inside a stuffy cabinet with temperatures above 60°C during idle. It's sealed and has also experienced below ambient sub-zero conditions. I believe you won't face any real problems regardless of the temperature it shows. Just keep the load below that throttle threshold, and everything should be fine.
