I'm searching for an external disc drive to burn files onto DVD and CD-R discs. I noticed many cheap options on Amazon for around £10, but the reviews are varied—some say they fail after just two weeks. I considered an Asus model priced at £28 and wanted to know if it's a reliable choice. Even the pricier models have some negative feedback, so I'm curious if anyone has had positive experiences with this brand. Please let me know.
Can't recall seeing much about optical drives in a while. I think LG just stopped making blue-ray drives.
LG and Sony are usually the top choices for optical drives, but I haven't had any problems with HP either. It's unclear where HP gets the drives from, and it seems to change.
I've owned an external optical drive for more than ten years, except for the plastic that's starting to melt, which hasn't caused any problems with the drive. (If you need to handle that, baking soda works.)
I've been using the LG BP60NB10 without any issues; I don't know the Amazon prices for them in my area.
I've owned this for around five years.
Occasionally not in use, but it always works when needed.

Around $25.
Just a note, another choice could be purchasing an internal disc drive with a 5¼ enclosure. That would give you more freedom in your options.
The cost for both parts will be higher than buying a laptop disc burner, but I believe it would offer better quality and longer use.

Great drive for the price!
But I think this:

would be just as effective.
Or perhaps any other external DVD would work the same way.
They all function identically inside.
this is the one i've been using for years
