I linked my monitor to an adapter (HDMI to VGA) and believe that's why it happened.
Avoid using Kali if you can't fix video issues. Consider Ubuntu or Mint instead. If your monitor isn't detected, it may lack a suitable driver for your graphics card. Try using an iGPU if possible.
