No power or data in dual-channel RAM - memory LED indicates error
I'm looking for some new guidance on what actions to take next. Your setup is a Ryzen 5 3600 with a boxed cooler, MSI X570-a Pro, and a dual-channel memory configuration. The issue seems to be that when using the recommended slots (DIMMA2 + DIMMB2), the system won't boot or shows a DRAM error. After trying both RAM sticks in different slots, it still doesn’t work properly. You mentioned checking for physical damage and confirming the CPU isn’t faulty. What would help next? Any tests or tools you could run to verify the memory or CPU condition?
I considered using another mobile board, but it still produced the same outcome. It feels odd to encounter the same issue with two boards having identical faults. Is this an RMA matter? What does it mean?
Read your text carefully and let me know if you need any changes or a summary.
Please read what I wrote: If you have tried this. Then maybe try another memory kit. Or test the sticks individually using memtest86 from a bootable usb: https://www.memtest86.com/downloads/memt...sb.img.zip
Here’s a revised version of your message:
So, there’s a minor update to share in this discussion. Following your advice, I’ve gone beyond my first troubleshooting steps and completed the MemTest86 test, which passed successfully. (Conducted tests on single RAM, another single RAM, and dual RAMs in slots DIMMA1 and DIMMA2; DIMMB1 and/or DIMMB2 are still pending.) I’ve tried various GPUs known to function in both PCI-E slots. The system performed consistently without an M.2 drive—booted to Win PE for the test. This behavior was consistent, so I eliminated the M.2 drive as a factor. Since the BIOS on TrigrH isn’t updated, and it has the latest version available, updating it shouldn’t affect things. Would updating the BIOS make any difference? Based on what I’ve done, it seems the GPU, RAM, or PSU aren’t the issues. This leaves the motherboard and CPU as potential culprits. I don’t think the motherboard is the problem, because similar behavior appears with different manufacturers.
Additional details: During troubleshooting, I found that installing Windows, software, and drivers to a PCI-e Wi-Fi card works fine, but there’s a specific issue linked to the original problem. Some further information: Installing any kind of software or driver for the motherboard chipset or GPU (X570 and Vega 64) causes Windows to freeze, reboot, and then continue functioning without BSOD or error codes. The only clue appears in the Event Viewer logs.
There are two possible reasons for this behavior:
1. Installing a chipset driver/software
2. Plugging and unplugging USB devices works normally
Any further guidance would be appreciated. I’m running out of options!
P.S. I’ve submitted a support ticket to AMD Global Customer Care, but the response has been slow.
You noticed the same problem with your system and are wondering if the CPU might be the issue. When RAM fails in dual-channel mode, it can affect performance even if the CPU is fine. Checking the motherboard, power supply, and connections could help identify the root cause.
