No POST after move
I traveled 180 miles on the weekend and installed my ~6-year-old PC yesterday as a gift. Recently, while using it, it possibly crashed, causing me to restart it repeatedly with the fan spinning rapidly every few seconds, attempting a reset. I turned off the power.
I tried to inspect the device, verified the connections, and forced the interior open with compressed air. The fan stopped running after that, and the power button didn’t respond. Eventually, I had to dismantle it completely.
Since then, I’m feeling uncertain about the process. I’ve worked on computers before with a friend and feel confident in those situations, but here I’m facing these steps for the first time. I checked the troubleshooting checklist for no POST issues but found nothing.
At the moment, I’ve removed the motherboard and PSU, which are now connected (shown). Only the 24-pin JPWR1, 4-pin JPWR2, and CPUFAN remain plugged in. I used a screwdriver to connect the power supply pins, but nothing happened.
I moved my SSD and wireless card into an older 2007 tower, which works fine. Connecting the motherboard to that 305W PSU didn’t result in a post, making the process difficult since I didn’t want to disassemble the second tower.
I don’t have a speaker to read error codes, and I’m unsure where to purchase one locally. I can order it online. I do have a multimeter, but I suspect the issue lies with the PSU. Please give me some advice.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! I linked it with a 305W power supply. How did you reach the conclusion that the PSU is 305W? I’d try swapping it out and check if the problem persists.
