Also remember that AMD indicated they would release the BIOS updates somewhat after the Ryzen 4000 launch. Therefore, verify with your MOBO manufacturer that they had the BIOS update ready for the Ryzen 4000 before purchasing it.

Why upgrade now if it will not give you any performance benefit? Just wait until B550 is out and 4000 series CPU's are released. The B450 support will be an option, it's not guaranteed the motherboard manufacturer will release an updated bios.

I’m thinking about getting a new motherboard this fall since my old one stopped working. I’d like something similar to an Athlon now, maybe a 4000 series if possible, otherwise a 3000, but having a 4000 without a new motherboard would be great.

I understand, I’d still prefer a B550 board if it met my needs. You might return the “shortened” version and request a replacement if it remains covered under warranty.

I borrowed it from a friend who gave it to me along with a CPU. It was a B20M Bazooka board, quite good, but any warranty would only apply to the original owner.
