He had a Ryzen 2600 with an MSI B450M Pro vdh max and an RX 480. Occasionally the screen would freeze while the system stayed on, but he couldn't resolve it. After upgrading to an RTX 2060, the problem disappeared. Now I own the same Ryzen and RX 480, and I’m experiencing the same issue. He gave his brother his CPU and GPU before passing them on, but kept his motherboard. I also bought an MSI B450M Pro vdh max for the same reason.

It’s unclear if my problem matches his. He had a compact space and didn’t check for error codes. I’m running the CPU at its default speed, RAM at 3000MHz (advertised), GPU at 50 MHz with a 1050mV overclock. The PC stalls briefly, then the monitor goes dark, the CPU debug lights come on, the cooler stops spinning, and the GPU fans spin at a lower speed than normal. No fans are installed, so I can’t comment on that.

He tried everything: running GPU at stock, swapping cables, changing ports, updating BIOS, resetting BIOS, reinstalling drivers, removing chipset and motherboard drivers, uninstalling software like Afterburner and Riva Tuner (due to conflicts). Nothing fixed it.

I also considered using the RX 480 with his older AMD GPU, but that didn’t happen often. I haven’t tested an older AMD GPU to see if it’s the cause. I’m curious—does this issue occur with AMD CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs too? Is the MSI B450M Pro vdh max prone to this problem in all models? Does the Ryzen 2600 react badly to AMD GPUs?
