No output from GPU following CPU cooler adjustment.
Hi everyone,
I’ve replaced my CPU block in a fully water cooled system. The previous unit had a very small crack, but it remained watertight. After completing the leak test, everything seemed fine. However, I’m not getting any video output at all. When I power on, I hear the Windows startup sound through the speakers, indicating POST is passing, and the screens briefly wake from sleep mode, suggesting a signal is sent at startup. Still, nothing else appears to be working.
With a triple monitor setup, it’s unlikely the issue is with a single cable—three units would probably all function normally. My flow meter shows normal flow rates, temperature is slightly above ambient, and the GPU backplate feels cold.
My main ideas are that either the GPU isn’t receiving power or it failed completely. I’ve re-seated the GPU (card and adapter) and tried a different power cable, but I’m not sure if that’s enough. The specs I have are:
- RTX 3080 with Alphacool EIS Block
- Intel i9 10900k with Alphacool EIS Block (switched from Ekwb velocity)
- MSI Tomahawk Z490
- 4x16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz RAM
- EK Quantum Inertia Pump feeding through two 360mm rads and soft tubing
Any suggestions would be really helpful. I’m about to begin a new project and need this PC operational, so I can’t afford a new GPU at the moment!
It seems to be moving beyond the post limit. I can hear the Windows login sound and the corresponding USB device chime when I disconnect them. The issue appears to be limited to the visual display, not the audio.
