DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Today in PC software and games it usually means needing an always-online account, similar to services like Steam and Origin. Previously it meant using CD keys.

Steam and Origin aren't consistently available with DRM. You must be logged in, but no internet is needed unless you're playing for the first time on that device. Losing the connection won't impact your experience. The phrase "always online DRM" is straightforward.

Only a handful of titles support offline play these days. Yet you're correct. Steam and Origin operate with an account-based system.
