After eight years of consistent use, my old Linksys WRT1200ac router with ExpressVPN is facing support cuts that threaten its functionality. It’s disappointing since it’s been dependable. The fix would be to install a Linux distribution on the router or a Raspberry Pi, run the ExpressVPN version there, and extend that connection to my network. Plus, I could revert the device back to its original software, restoring its built-in NAS features. Have you tried anything similar? Anyone else upgrading their router this way is ending up with e-waste? @Linus/Luke – When will LinusVPN arrive so our devices never become waste? Posted from Firefox on Linux.

The fix for old routers often uses OpenWrt or DD-Wrt. Your Linksys should work with these tools: https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt1200ac?s[]=wrt1200ac. I saw something on GitHub about setting up ExpressVPN in OpenVPN on OpenWrt, but I can't recall the exact WAN configuration. It seems the best path is simply to avoid it altogether to stay clear of legal and ethical issues.
