I set up HWmonitor to monitor temperatures and fan speeds while playing Dota 2. I minimized the window just to check the temps out of curiosity, and it crashed suddenly. This happened on a new PC with minimal files and stable CPU temps—never exceeding 45°C. After recovering from the shock and feeling really upset, I ran a virus scan and removed HWmonitor. It’s a fairly common hardware monitor, but anyone else have similar experiences?
Hardwaremonitor might not have been the reason for the crash. Consider reviewing the crash log and searching online for details about the error code. Are you adjusting the clock speed? Have you done this before? You could check your BIOS settings and try loading optimized defaults to verify everything is in order.
Consider trying to download BlueScreenView. If your system recorded a crash log, it will locate it and display key details. If no logs exist, it may mean your computer didn’t crash or the paging file is active.
I've experienced a BSOD with HWMonitor before, especially after updating, so I went back to the previous version. The latest releases work well now.
