I haven't used Skype much lately, but a few years ago when I relied on it often, I noticed it was deteriorating rapidly. It's possible it's getting worse now. Additionally, I've recently started using Discord and really enjoy it. The only missing features are screen sharing and webcam functionality.

TS Skype has been problematic for about three years now. Teamspeak is a better option—just join a channel when you're online, use AFK channels, etc. It reduces background noise and offers clearer audio compared to Skype. (my view)

Skype's VOIP isn't great, but Teamspeak performs much better. On Teamspeak, you can set it to always use the microphone or switch push-to-talk on/off for convenience. The codecs there are significantly improved, making even poor microphones sound acceptable. You can include as many participants as needed in a single call (limited only by server capacity) and avoid the issue of massive simultaneous PTT traffic.

Skype consistently underperformed compared to Hangouts throughout its existence.

When it remains quiet on teamspeak, its total silence on skype isn't complete silence—you can still detect someone's sound. Yes, skype offers screen sharing, a webcam, and an online, away option. Features like 'do not disturb,' 'fake offline,' and 'offline' work well, but screen sharing struggles with low performance (10 fps) and the facecam often has issues. The status bar can be frustrating at times when the app is open.

I understand, Skype has really declined recently, which is why I'm focusing on switching with my friends to Discord—it feels much better.

The difference between Teamspeak and Skype is just that Teamspeak has options - and not just two stupid bars that you can change from "does nothing" to "does also nothing". And then there is also the obviously better quality and performance.

It's always that bothersome ambient sound. I'm constantly trying to persuade my friends to switch from Skype, but apparently they still find it okay—showing how much they value good audio quality. Now I only communicate with those who really understand and don’t rely on Skype. Because I can't tolerate the background noise.

The system's RAM consumption is too high, so I switch to the Skype web interface.
