I think there was an issue with the 7950X3D processors due to some defective motherboard firmware. After updating the BIOS on my MSI board with a non-3D 7950X, I've seen increased power consumption and reduced performance. Cinebench dropped from 35k to 34k in 105W eco mode, and system power rose by about 10 watts under load. It seems the BIOS update resolved the 3D CPU overheating problem, but since my board isn't a 3D variant, I'm considering reverting to the older BIOS. I'm worried this might cause damage. Are there any reports of the non-3D 7950X burning? Could going back to the previous BIOS improve stability while maintaining performance and safety?

Occasional cases have been noted where non-X3D chips overheat and fail. I haven’t identified many 7950X instances, though a few 7900X models experienced similar issues. The damage appears comparable to what happens with X3D chips.

They were all at EXPO, but I’m not joining. I’m just keeping the RAM at 4800 MHz because it doesn’t affect my needs. I’m hoping mine works too.

I think the issue might have occurred there. Please consider the latest bios, along with expo/xmp, and retry your benchmarks.
