I believe a key issue is the reintroduced features such as the Start Menu. Although it has returned after its holiday, it fails to capture what made it appealing at first. Applications are scattered across alphabetical folders, live tiles are too tiny for practical use, and items are misplaced. Additionally, selecting colors based on background preferences isn't functioning properly except for blue, black, or grey. If you choose the yellow triangle wallpaper as your desktop background, it displays a harsh yellow that strains your vision. Regarding eye strain, the default wallpaper is unappealing—dark, black, and dull in my view. Other small frustrations include calc.exe redirecting to newer applications, inability to hear custom programs despite settings changes, lack of border colors, absence of dark themes, transparency options, personalization features, and a generic screen saver. Windows 10 seems to irritate me as well.
From my perspective, I only opened the expanding start menu a handful of times during the transition from Windows 7 beta to Windows 10 release. The search bar feature in the start menu stood out to me. Windows 7 also offered it, but I had to take two steps instead of one to activate it. It feels more fluid, though it might just be due to my simple installation setup. I typically refresh my installed applications once a month. Regardless, whatever I use appears in the start menu—whether from a tile or frequently accessed. Edit: I can also rely on Cortana to launch apps while I’m handling other tasks with my hands.
