You managed to fix the laptop you had running Windows 7 Pro for 15 days and then switched it back to Windows 10, which caused some pop-ups. During a live demo, Linus mentioned that using a pirated Windows version wouldn’t qualify for the free Windows 1 upgrade. When asked for an email address, you already had one saved, but the system warned you that the free trial would be canceled if you didn’t provide it. Your concern is whether this was some kind of Microsoft trick or if there’s a real issue with the software. You weren’t expecting a genuine Windows 10 trial, especially since you already had a pirated copy.

They employed a trigger to convince your system that your version is genuine, prompting it to present upgrade choices as usual for any Windows install.

You’ll receive Win10 for free for a year, but you’ll need to purchase an authentic version afterward.

It's typical; they push for upgrades while keeping you unlicensed or cracked. They claim this boosts the "Windows 10 Users" count. They said that... it's official.

There are no security measures in place, which means the experience is quite vulnerable. Eventually, you might need to handle costs or stop receiving updates.

Uhm, no. Anyone will get Win10 for free within 1 year of its release if they have Win7 or newer. If you get Win10 upgrade on illegal windows, the 10 will also be illegal.

Yes, that's true. I'm sure you had in mind buying Windows 10 when it launches. It's only $100 for an OEM license or $120 for retail, and you can transfer it to another device. It's not a big cost. A game you play just a little while you use Windows averages about $60.
