No, it's not a fibre cable toast.
No, it's not a fibre cable toast.
I and my dad have been planning a network upgrade for a while. Last Saturday we installed a fiber cable through a conduit in our home. After finishing, we noticed the exterior had cracked. The packaging mentioned it was a multimode simplex 850nm OM4 cable, but inside we found a blue-green wire that seemed fine. When I asked on Discord, they said it probably broke. If it was damaged, we'd have to lay about 3.5 meters of cable again through a narrow conduit. TL;DR—was the cable broken?
The only certainty comes from testing it. Still, it’s wise to consider the risks before finalizing the setup.
Yes, she's in a tough spot. Fiber is extremely delicate to any twists or bends, which is far more than what's happening here.
Yea looks bad, you can test it, but even if its works id replace it. THere is cabeling that is made for pulling through conduit, id get that s a replacement.
I still receive a cable designed for conduits if sharp edges are a concern. There are better options for handling such situations. Also, I personally use single mode since I don’t see a need for multimode, but you have your choice.
Everyone questioned me, yet it functions flawlessly at 10gbit
