No, it should not be this way.
Hello everyone, just got back with more questions. While I was relaxed and playing games, I kept the MSI afterburner overlay active to monitor my system temperatures. Over the past week, I've seen my GPU consistently hovering between 95% and 100% usage at temperatures of 69-75°C, while my CPU stayed around 52°C with only 25-35% utilization during gaming sessions. This is something I'm curious about—should I investigate further or is it normal? Even when running multiple apps and streaming to friends in games like War Thunder, R6, Minecraft, Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 5, DBH, and more at high settings (1440p) with Ray Tracing enabled, everything runs smoothly. My specs are listed on my profile: R9 5900X, 3080, 32 GB RAM at 3600 MHz. Could this indicate a bottleneck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Games usually run with just 6-8 threads, but your CPU has 24. This suggests you won’t see usage exceed 35% during games, since only a third of the threads might be active while the rest stay idle. Your R9 5900X and 3080 should perform comparably.
It seems you're observing normal performance levels. Your GPU usage typically stays between 85-95%, which aligns with its capabilities in most games. With a 12-core/24-thread CPU, 25-35% usage is ideal, and your 8-core/16-thread setup matches that range, sometimes reaching up to 50%. No issues detected—everything appears fine.
I believe this might be an issue with the software or the cards. For example, my 3070 tends to end up at 99% most of the time, while my 5070 usually hits 100% in benchmarks and most games. I’m aware it’s not a major problem, but I noticed it and it feels a bit odd. (P.S.: We’re likely discussing 3D usage only, which is another big topic...)
I mean it could but I'm seeing this in all kinds of stuff including benchmarks where no CPU core is above 50%... And switching to a stronger GPU makes it 100... (so can't really be bottleneck)
Thanks for your feedback. It’s been frustrating when my CPU stayed under 30% during game launches, but I’m relieved everything is normal. Appreciate the input!
