I'm evaluating RAM options for my upgrade from a Gen 2 i3 to the Ryzen 5 1600 AF with a ROG Strix B450F. The advice suggests 3600Mhz speeds, but the AMD site mentions the CPU only handles up to 2666Mhz. I'm curious if it's still beneficial to invest in faster RAM given the CPU's capabilities.
You won't be able to save your RAM since it doesn't fit in the slot. For any Ryzen processor, aim for a minimum of 3000.
It's challenging yet achievable. I have a 1600X with 16GB at 3000MHz (down from 3200 which wasn't reliable; I might reach it if I ease the timing). My friends' 2600X performed worse with RAM compared to mine, though it came with a more affordable build. Results between Z and Z+ seem similar.
Ryzen+ should handle around 3200MHz with a CL14 max, making it a solid target.
I wouldn't invest that much. Keep in mind the 1600AF is a lower binned 2600, so it likely won't rank high in IMC. A standard 3200 CL16 kit seems like the most sensible choice for good value.
