You're encountering a common issue with newer Intel CPUs in recent games. It seems the shader compilation process can sometimes cause delays or crashes, especially if your system isn't fully optimized for it. The solution you're using—adjusting power settings—is a practical workaround. However, repeated failures might still affect performance or stability over time. Updating your BIOS or performing a voltage adjustment could further improve reliability. It's not necessarily permanent damage, but consistent issues may warrant deeper troubleshooting.

Download the BIOS, save it onto a USB stick, then follow the update instructions on the BIOS display or utilize a flashback if your motherboard supports it. It's quite straightforward. I prefer this approach over letting my CPU deteriorate due to failure.

If I understand correctly, I need to wait until mid August for the microcode update. At that point I might give it a try, but I feel like I could screw it up and make my PC not boot.

It’s actually quite simple. Focus on avoiding turning off your computer during BIOS updates. If your power supply is unreliable or there’s a storm nearby, refrain from doing so. You might also find it helpful to keep an eye on this.

Thanks to your support, I managed to refresh my BIOS. It seems my ASUS motherboard already contains the required microcode update, which explains the delay you've heard about. The update details mention "microcode 0x125" to keep eTVB within Intel standards. After installing it, the game that usually causes crashes during shader compilation now runs smoothly—great progress! I’m hoping no further changes are needed and that my CPU remains stable after nearly two years.

We will implement at least two microcode changes. The initial update mainly adjusted voltage settings and a few parameters, which was straightforward. The August release is more comprehensive, addressing all aspects and updating whenever possible is the optimal approach to keep your chip functioning smoothly.

Challenge your PC with an extended stress test using the OCCT large mixed varied assessment for several hours. If you succeed, it suggests the issue is only related to shader installation and preparation—shader compilation remains demanding on the CPU. This could indicate Intel core synchronization problems or a need to adjust BIOS settings to prevent single-core boosting. We’re here to assist with recalibrating the voltage for better stability.

To verify functionality, you might execute Prime 95 during a full night. This approach was common in the Y2K period when users adjusted settings to check for computational issues

Prime95 has existed for a long time and remains relevant today.

Many users lower the voltage and boost the speed of their system while testing Cinebench, thinking it works smoothly without any issues.
