Hey there, I recently installed a setup with 96 GB of Corsair Vengeance 5200 CL38 RAM (two sets of 48). At first everything ran smoothly—dual channel, A2+B2 configuration. The memory loaded quickly, no glitches, XMP supported, and I used the PC for about half a workday. Then suddenly, without any demanding tasks, it crashed and shut down completely. After restarting, only 48 GB appeared in Task Manager, and the system felt extremely sluggish. The CPU data stayed accurate, but the BIOS now claimed I had 128 GB (two sets of 64) installed. Running mdsched didn’t show any issues. I restarted again, still seeing just 48 GB and continued lagging. I swapped the RAM sticks around—moved the stick from A2 to B2 and vice versa. Now, at least things seem back in order. This happened before with other RAM, this is my first DDR5 build. Anyone know what’s going on? Should I return the kit for a replacement? Thanks for any advice. System: 13900K Gigabyte B760 DS3H AX Motherboard (DDR5 Version), BIOS F1, 12/16/2022 Corsair Vengeance 2x48 GB 5200MHz CL38 RAM on XMP 1 M.2 SSD (from previous setup), MSI RTX 3060 (functioned perfectly in old system) 700W quiet! PSU also worked fine in the past). Works great with Windows 10 Pro 22H2, Feature Experience Pack 1000.
These 48GB sticks are still quite new, possibly indicating a basic BIOS setup. There are references to improvements for 24/48GB modules in newer BIOS versions, which could be helpful—consider running: (F2) - Memory single 24/48GB module compatibility optimization or (F3) - Memory single 24GB module compatibility optimization.
These Corsair connectors are built with Micron 24Gb B dies, but they often need BIOS tweaks to function properly. Updating your BIOS to include the right optimizations can improve reliability.
This appears to be the optimal follow-up action (before handing anything over). The system is still very recent, so I haven’t updated the BIOS yet. This will likely be the next step. Appreciate the help! Edit: Updated BIOS to version F4, functioning properly. Thanks again. Revised: August 16, 2023 by foigRt Summary
