No impact on graphics card performance
Hey everyone, just checking if using both M.2 slots on my ASUS Z390-E board will impact my graphics card performance. I currently have a 2080Ti in the top slot and plan to use both for NVMe drives. From what I see, it shouldn’t matter much. Still wondering if someone here has more certainty. I’ve attached an image in case it helps. Thanks ahead of time! —Apark2241
Using the first M.2 port reduces the X16 slot to an X8 configuration. The second M.2 slot is probably linked to the chipset and accessed through DMI, giving it dedicated PCI-e lanes that don’t interfere with the 16 available for your GPU. You won’t notice a big difference whether you have 8 or 16 lanes for the GPU. TL;DR: Everything works fine.
You possess 16 PCIe 3.0 slots on the CPU and 24 from the chipset.
