Many people say Mass Effect is a must-play title. It often proves worthwhile when others recommend it and you enjoy it. Witcher 3 and Life is Strange are two examples that come to mind quickly. I recently picked up Mass Effect 3 due to its positive reviews. Some even called it the best game they’ve ever played, and I decided to try it out. I spent a couple of hours playing and... well, it turned out to be quite dull. I want to note that I haven’t played the earlier Mass Effect titles, so it might be related. From what I’ve experienced so far, the story felt predictable, like typical alien invasion narratives. The dialogue and gameplay didn’t impress me much. I’m unsure if things will get better later, but a friend who played it further found it boring and stopped playing altogether. Should I keep going or return to the earlier games? What did you think of this game?

It would be smarter to try the other titles in the series first. Since it's a narrative, you're missing most of the plot. Plus, it might not suit your preferences.

If you prefer not to watch the initial two matches, dedicate some time to YouTube for videos that clarify the story behind those games.

The trilogy works best when experienced in order. Jumping to the conclusion leaves little connection and emotional weight, missing the impact of earlier choices. Mass Effect 2 and 3 retained important decisions from the prior title, making the narrative feel responsive. While the overarching plot remains consistent, these choices give a sense of influence. The final installment removes that feeling, making it seem like the story concluded before it began. You miss seeing how your actions shaped the outcome. I suggest reviewing playthroughs, letplay sessions, or key cutscenes to better understand the progression. Overall, I enjoyed the series (1–3), driven by curiosity about future events, character development, and the ending.
