I don't think so... That sounds like updating RAM. I'd run a virus scan just to be safe, but maybe you're referring to motherboard drivers? If that's the case, go ahead and download the latest ones for those features. Downloading a chipset isn't possible since it's a hardware part.

It might have been a chipset driver update in his Windows updates. Updates often go unnoticed since most people don’t check them closely.

You cannot change your chipset settings. You should only update the drivers for your chipset. The chipset refers to a collection of chips that manage components on your motherboard.

Sorry if it came across that way. I was hinting at that earlier. Chipset drivers are usually more common than motherboard drivers.
