Helmet gear is no longer needed for AC access; you can spawn without it. AC is available by pressing ESC and choosing it, or entering the new sim-pod in your hangar—likely near the holotable.

Arena Commander functions as a simulation within the game. Once the PU activates, you'll gain the ability to truly depart from your hangar.

I've been exploring those hangars for over a year now, and my main wish is to soar through those doors. That's the most exciting part of the PU for me. Just imagine them opening grandly and taking off into the darkness...

Have you tried the 1.1.2 PTU Guide? You'll depart from the Astroid Hangar, guided by an NPC.

It won't take much time, I think it'll arrive by the end of next week (perhaps or likely) unless any game-breaking issues are discovered.
