No games are inherently worse when piracy occurs; it depends on the specific title and circumstances.

Nope, usually they run better if anything (this is not an endorsement of piracy, or an admittance to anything)
Generally, there’s no noticeable difference in performance unless the genuine copy contains strong DRM that pirates can bypass. In those extremely uncommon cases, pirated versions may perform slightly better.
But if you're unsure about what you're doing, you're likely causing problems by using pirated games. I don't support piracy nor oppose it, but I'm highlighting that with Steam pricing and the low cost of games today, there really isn't much benefit to piracy—except for titles with harsh DRM that penalize rightful players.
I also don’t support piracy and haven’t engaged in it until I could purchase games legitimately through Steam when I was older. The benefit I see is the users who try it before buying. Many people experiment with piracy for a short time—like a couple of hours—and if they don’t enjoy it, they stop using it. Those who like it usually continue or wait for a sale. The solution would be reintroducing demos, but that seems challenging right now.
