I searched eBay for 7800x3d processors and stumbled upon this ad. The seller linked to a Dell storefront, but there’s no mention of vendor lock-in beyond EPYC chips. Could it be that Dell locks these CPUs to their boards? If so, can you fix it via microcode or reach out to AMD support? I’m concerned about the seller’s intentions and worried about potential e-waste if the part ends up unused. I also found a relevant discussion on Dell’s community forum about similar issues.

They support these CPUs, yet vendor locking doesn’t seem common for popular desktop processors (though that might change).

The seller might have been puzzled because the 670E motherboard they attempted wasn't properly updated, leading them to believe they were using a different model.

They might have installed it incorrectly when they placed it back in their x670E. We only have secondhand information—everything we know comes from online sources. Consider purchasing only if you plan to use it with an Alienware or are prepared to spend around $250.

It seems the PSB feature on Alienware is genuine, and the previously unlocked CPU has been locked. While I haven’t personally tested it, I understand the concerns shared by others. It looks like a risky move—only go if you’re comfortable with the possibility of reversing it.

I understand AMD and Intel can restrict CPU access when needed. It's tough to picture Dell having such control. Who knows the seller's actions or situation? Better to avoid it unless you're willing to take a risk. Check their return and warranty terms.

I wasn't really looking to purchase it; I don’t usually invest heavily in PC parts. I just wanted to see if the problem could be resolved. If it was possible, I’d message the seller on eBay with a link to this forum so they could try it out.
