Android versions prior to 8.0 include a vertical task switcher. Modern devices with flagship processors and updated OS versions typically support this feature. However, finding a reliable option without rooting may be challenging.
Similar to juggling multiple tasks with flexible and changing interfaces? I've managed that smoothly since October.
LG was likely one of the final companies to provide this setting, and it probably disappeared with Android 10. You might also find some excellent custom ROMs that add this feature (perhaps crDroid?). If you're not too interested in tweaking, you can install an OEM unlockable Pixel—there are plenty of ROMs to choose from, and you're likely to discover something that fits. Another benefit is that you can switch to alternatives like GrapheneOS or CalyxOS if customization isn't your main goal. Another choice could be devices from Nothing, which currently have strong backing in the custom ROM scene.
