I’m considering an AM5 package with a Ryzen 9700X and wondering if it might limit performance on the newer AMD graphics cards. I’d prefer to skip the 3D accelerators right now.

It won't work. PBO and CO are the solution; it will run smoothly. Strong performance from the CPU.

The 9700X works well with the latest AMD graphics cards. I used it with an RTX 4080 for two years mainly for gaming, and it performed excellently.

The 9xxx non-3D chips run a bit slower compared to a 7800x3d in games, but this varies based on resolution and GPU. The 9700x seems to be the top option if you want to skip 3D chips.
