I'm considering replacing my motherboard but haven't decided yet. I'd appreciate your suggestions on whether it's a good idea and which one would be best suited for my current setup: H510-A Pro MSI, other computer components; CPU Intel-9 11900K, GPU AMD 7700XT, RAM 2x16 GB, RIPJAW PSU, 650W Seasonic Gold case.
When you reached that point, it was often over already. Unless you purchase a used one, a fresh board won’t justify the performance boost versus upgrading other components. Worse still, new LGA1200 boards are running out of stock everywhere. The board tends to fail sooner than the CPU eventually does. If you must go used, look for a model priced well below a Ryzen 5 5600 and B550 combo (which usually costs 150-250 USD). I suggest checking the B660 review on Hardware Unboxed. Power throttling is a major issue here, and getting a board that still throttles on basic Intel i7 will only hurt your experience.
Are you checking if your motherboard is working properly? Does it include all the necessary components like USB ports and PCIe slots? If both yes, then skip the upgrade. However, LGA 1200 boards are costly, so spending around $100 on an upgrade would be better invested in a full platform upgrade where you get more performance for less money. If you have problems that can't be fixed, the cheapest fix might be enough, but swapping a dead LGA 1200 board isn't practical.
Be honest with me, it's hard to grasp for a platform that gets good support like AM5 or LGA1851. You only upgrade the board when you really need a better USB controller—let's be real, USB hubs already cover most "need more ports" cases—or more internal slots.
At least on a supported platform there's an argument for it. I will still agree that it's pretty niche, but they do occur. Say on AM5 if you bought an A620M-HDV and a 7900X, you'd be power throttling that chip like crazy so getting a board upgrade would be the performance equivalent of getting a CPU upgrade, plus then at least you have the option of also upgrading your CPU if you still need more performance. On a dead platform though, you risk getting dead boards used or just overspending in general (even used boards get quite expensive once you go more than about 2-3 years out of production for some reason), so that money would be better spend just saving up for an entirely new platform. It is rarer on the newer platforms though as the amount of boards with unusably wimpy VRMs is quite small compared to what it was on LGA 1151v2, LGA 1200, and early AM5 (this only really became a problem when the Ryzen 9s were introduced, only the 2700X could draw enough power to overwhelm the worst boards).
When no budget exists, use a 9800X3D and B850 board instead of the 11900K.
It really adds another reason to move away from the platform. Core i9 and i7 Intel keep their worth well after sale (best compared to other components), so you might even find someone willing to purchase the board and CPU separately. Ebay’s listings indicate it’s still available for about 180-250 USD, with the higher end reaching around 5700X3D.
Thank you for the guidance! Honestly, I just want to change the motherboard instead of making a full overhaul or replacing too many components. Living in a small town makes it hard to find resale parts, so I don’t want to waste them or throttle my CPU and GPU. My current H510-A PRO is a mini ATX model, which limits what I can do and how much I can utilize the case. Even though LGA1200 boards are pricier, I’m more open to buying and installing them rather than swapping everything. Still, I really value your advice!
It would be useful to know more about your location and what you're looking for. You might want to check eBay for parts instead of upgrading. Selling your CPU or motherboard could bring in around $250, leaving about $150 for the board, which would let you build a full R5 7600 system capable of outperforming the 11900K.

As others have noted, there's no point in replacing your motherboard unless you have a hardware problem with your existing board, and unless you bought a spare compatible board when they were still mass-produced, finding a compatible board with the features you need years later can be a challenge, very expensive, or both. If you don't need a new motherboard, why bother replacing your existing board?
