I found an issue while attempting to restart a laptop that had been on a shelf for years. The model is listed, and I’m hoping I missed something important. When trying to boot, I reached BSOD - UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME, which led me to suspect a failed SSD. I tried booting from an installed USB, but the laptop wouldn’t start. The BIOS showed severe damage; nothing accessible except "Mode - Uefi." I installed Windows on the second drive for easier access, but still couldn’t boot. After removing the old SSD and trying to access it, it didn’t work at all. I bought a new M.2 SATA SSD, installed Windows again, but the laptop still wouldn’t boot. The only option left was to consider a modified BIOS, though I can’t boot from it right now. Appreciate any advice you can offer.

What size USB did you use? Occasionally it doesn't read big ones because the firmware requires CSM for USB booting. You might also attempt three consecutive BSODs to see if it restarts into a recovery screen to repair the drive. If none of these work, can you access and remove the CMOS battery? That may reset the firmware to a stable state.

Thanks for your response. The USB is only 8 GB, which seems to be the smallest I could get. Attempting to start the laptop with the old drive causes it to freeze in automatic repair mode, not progressing beyond that point. Using different tools on the computer hasn't helped either—either they can't detect the drive or they don't respond. I've tried removing the CMOS for about 20 minutes, but nothing changed.

It's been a month with no progress, do you think another person might have a solution?
