I'm using an Asrock B550 Phantom gaming Pg Velocita and was thinking about adding a NVMe expansion card to boost my storage. I already have two hard drives and an M.2 slot, but I require additional space because I work on game development with Unreal Engine. My PC specs include a Ryzen 4500 Asrock 6600xt with 650W thermal, 80+ bronze rating, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, two 2TB HDDs, and a 2TB M.2 boot drive running Samsung 980 Pro. I've managed without issues even with AAA games. I just need more storage capacity.

How many drives are you installing? If only one, place it in the second X16 slot and switch to 8x8 mode. Finished.

From what I read online about that oard, you only have one x16 slot. The other is really just x4 so you can't bifurcate it. You could toss a single drive in it though.

Consider adding a robust 4TB SATA storage device, another viable choice.

Add an extra M.2 port using PCIe 3.0 x2 and include a second PCIe x4 slot for an M.2 riser card. No splitting required.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add an expansion card to my setup. I think I’ll start with the second M.2 port on the motherboard, but eventually I might switch to a riser card.

Ensure you have a single M.2 riser card installed. The dual card won’t fit unless you use the premium model with a PCIe switch chip.
