so i recently got a pc with a gtx 1070 gaming x and a i5 6500 and ive noticed it bottlenecks a bit in some games and wondering what i can really do i know about playing on a higher res should help but it will look blurry since i got a 1920x1080 monitor and im working on getting an i7 6700k and just looking to see if i can do anything for the time being, thanks much love
Will it slow down? You mentioned it already does so, so that’s your response. The games you play run poorly on that i5. Avoid settings that worsen performance. It’s not a certainty, but it could help. At the end of the day, the CPU still has its task, and slight frame rate drops don’t always make things easier. Good luck finding something under $200—used prices are scary. If you lack an overclocking motherboard, skip the K version of the CPU. Just look for a 6700 or 7700, and definitely stay under $150 for this CPU. The Ryzen 3 3300X is only $120 new.
The issue isn't about money. I'm considering the Z170 motherboard and exploring the K version, but would you really suggest using an i7 6700K for the graphics card?
You can use your Z170 to enhance your i5 6500 by boosting its speeds. The stock performance is 3.2, but you can raise the single core to 3.6 and the others to 3.3. Many systems running over 4GHz with all cores synced worked well with a 1080. What motherboard are you using?
It was turned off many years back. The backward flashing feature was also taken away to stop misuse. Choose a B550 Strix or B550 Steel Legend. Adding a 3600 completes the setup.
