I just assembled a new PC and faced frequent crashes. I took out both RAM sticks, kept one in place as per the manual, and booted into Windows 10 setup. It worked fine then. After swapping the other stick, the issues persisted. They’ll likely be sent back, but I still need to install software, drivers, and games while managing the performance. Will a single 8GB DDR4 RAM stick slow me down significantly?

It varies based on your task and how much importance you place on RAM speed versus capacity.

Essentially no impact. If you're using an APU, it won't affect your gaming performance at all.

From a bandwidth perspective, it's just one channel. In terms of capacity, it should work just fine for a casual user if your needs are light. However, it relies on how much you're using it.

Are you facing constraints? Not at all. Expect a slight drop in performance? Probably not. You won’t see it clearly beyond benchmark tests? Not really. For the long term, you’ll need more specifics. What tasks will you be handling? What speed are you aiming for? Most importantly, which components are you relying on? They vary and impact differently.

Over the past few years, I've been running my Ryzen 1500x with just one 8GB DDR4 memory. It handles everything smoothly—gaming and CAD work without any problems. It does run slower on some tasks, but you won't notice it.

You're not necessarily able to get by with just 8, but if you're working on video editing or streaming games, you might face some challenges.

Not really heavy, just a bit yes. In short, new RAM sticks shouldn't cause issues—return both if available and get a replacement. If you're limited to 8GB, purchase one now and expand later. You'll likely need 16GB eventually.

Thanks for the update, I've set up the programs, drivers, and games. I'll keep gaming until the new kit arrives.
