Hello everyone, i’m facing an odd issue with my ASUS ROG G751j laptop. Recently, it would power on by itself every day once I plugged it in, even though the battery wasn’t working and the screen was off. The backlight stayed off, and pressing any button didn’t make a difference. It only functions properly after a restart while holding the power button. Time displayed was incorrect—sometimes it showed the last time it was turned off or hours later. I suspect this might be related to a CMOS battery, which is common in older laptops (model year 2015). Disassembling it to find the CMOS cell would take a long time, so I thought it’d be better to ask if anyone else has similar problems. Thanks for any advice!

Laptop specs: I7-4750HQ, GTX 980m, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 16GB DDR3L.

You can reach the CMOS battery right after taking off the bottom cover. It’s likely linked to a wire. Typically, you’ll need a tiny screwdriver and a few plastic clips, depending on the specific model.

I must take my laptop apart completely until I reach the motherboard, then flip it over and remove the battery.

Verify if the Cmos battery caused the issue. Updated it and now backlight and random laptop power-ups stopped working.
