I purchased the MSI Aegis RS prebuilt (11TF-223) a few months back. It features a 11700k socketed on a Z590 Pro WIFI (CEC) motherboard and a RTX 3080Ti. My only upgrades have been the operating system (from Windows 10 to Windows 11) and a CPU cooler (switching from MSI AIO to the Noctua NH-D15 with dual fans). Recently, I attempted overclocking using the basic MSI "Overclock Genie" in BIOS and enabled XMP at 3000MHz, which adjusted my BCLK from 100 to around 102. After running this for a short period, the system would crash and restart. Today I realized my BIOS was significantly outdated, so I updated it to the latest version. After flashing, I tried overclocking again using the same steps from a couple of days prior. This time it worked smoothly, and I no longer experience crashes. My in-game CPU temperatures have risen to 85-91°C, compared to about 65-80°C before the overclock. I’m a bit worried because my temps are higher now and I haven’t played long enough yet to trigger another crash. Idle temps are currently 47°C, which is up from ~41°C before the overclock. I’ve attached a screenshot showing what Overclock Genie does in BIOS. It disables smart fan control, forcing the CPU fan to run at full speed constantly, changes the CPU Ratio Apply Mode, and adjusts voltage settings. Is it safe to keep the 11700k at such high temperatures for extended periods? And could you explain what Overclock Genie does in simple terms? I’m just a beginner who hasn’t done any overclocking before, thanks!

bios configures the main voltage to 1.4v as expected for an auto OC. Adjust vcore to 1.3v, and verify the frequency you're using—if it's 5g or lower, 1.3v or 1.25v should work. Edited March 3, 2022 by GDRRiley MOD: removed info

Adjust the voltage a bit lower... It's fine at 1.4 V, but it gets too warm above 90°C for normal use.

You did a great job, thanks. I set it to 1.25 and it's performing almost as well as 1.4, just without the temperature issue. I might increase it to 1.3 when I'm feeling confident lol. Appreciate it!

Don't increase the voltage once an oscillation settles. It usually just causes your CPU to overheat.

Thanks for the update. It turns out I only added a few extra frames, which came with about 10 more degrees of movement. I then lowered it back to 1.25.
