I was fortunate to receive a 5900x on Amazon, arriving on Friday. After checking the CPU, I noticed a minor bend in one pin on the upper row—possibly due to incorrect packaging. Should I attempt to fix it myself? I’ve handled this before with an Intel P4 and it worked out. Or should I return it and look for another unit? Amazon is only providing a refund, not a replacement.

Does it fit into the mobile case? If yes, leave it untouched and just install it. If not, attempt to adjust it back; if unsuccessful, return it for a refund.

Amazon providing just a refund indicates they don’t have the item in stock to exchange your CPU. You’ll not receive one when using Amazon’s return process. Consider reaching out to AMD directly to explore their options.

I don't have the mobo yet, arrives on Dec 30 - and even then I won't have everything I need to boot it up and test. And that's fine, I'm more worried about Amazon's return period. I'm not convinced I'll get all the parts for my build by Jan 31 which is the end of the Amazon return period.

Usually I return items for a swap since I don’t want damaged goods. However, with such limited availability and uncertainty about when a replacement will arrive, I might try adjusting the pin first before considering an exchange.

Right. If by chance I break the pin, I'm screwed then. AMD won't RMA physical damage.

They mentioned the pin was broken upon delivery. That's accurate.

If the pin doesn't fit properly, don't try to adjust it yourself. First, give yourself time to figure things out or reach out to AMD directly. Share your details and any relevant images—your invoice helps speed up the process. Ask for their guidance on next steps. If they ask you to send it back, do so and wait for the replacement. If they suggest a repair and are willing to cover costs if it fails, that's acceptable too.

I appreciate that. This path seems likely. The image quality will be challenging to capture. A minor curvature is present.
