NHL 2001 for PC is no longer functioning properly with DirectX 7.
NHL 2001 is among the top hockey games out there! At one point I planned to play against the AI for a 20-minute match. Before that, it functioned well enough for occasional sessions once or twice a month.
Then I encountered an error saying:
"You do not have Directx7. Please install Directx 7.Could not load (null)"
My gaming PC is quite old.

Intel Core i7 870
8 GB of 1333 MHz RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 750 ti (2 GB of video memory)
2 SATA III SSD drives
I've already tried installing a DirectX package from a Microsoft link, but it didn't fix the issue.

Some observations were made,
Consider executing NHL.exe from the installation directory instead of using the shortcut or auto-run with cd.
Also, try restarting the EASports 3Dsetup program.
